Tuscany in Italy is known for its beautiful landscapes with ripening vineyards, everlasting traditions, history, artistic legacy and its permanent influence on high culture. One of its influence is the style of Tuscan architectural and interior design, which have inspired designers and homeowners around the globe. However, unless you live in Tuscany or ever come and spend times in a Tuscan home, you’ll rarely get to see the authentic Tuscan interior design. But that doesn’t mean you can’t bring Tuscan style in your home interior. Here are some tips.
1) The secret of Tuscan interior design is to keep it natural and rustic.
The authentic Tuscan interior design and decoration is natural, simple and rustic. Much of the Tuscany decor reflects the condition of this Italian society in the last century. Most of them are very poor, to the extent that if you had a small home on a piece of land on a tiny farm, you’ll be considered lucky because it’s usually enough to feed your family. The building materials are local-sourced and left natural, as the old-day Tuscans can’t afford to do additional treatments to their homes. The same rule applies to furniture. They were so simple, sturdy and unpainted.
2) In Tuscan interior design, neutral shades rule, but add some pops of bright colors as well.
Most of the Tuscany interiors adopted white and warm neutral shades of color, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t add some pops of bright and intense color to your Tuscan-inspired home.
The typical Tuscan interior colors ranging from pale peachy or pale salmon, cream, off-white to burnt orange and reddish browns. Consider to add a blue sky, pops of reds, and shades of green to add flair and dimensions amongst the neutral colors. Don’t forget to place some beautiful, colorful hand painted ceramics you can buy all over Tuscany and Umbria to complete the look!
3) Tuscans pay a lot of attention to their kitchens.
More than everywhere in this world, the kitchen really is the heart of Tuscan home. Keep the kitchen cabinets, island, shelves and another furniture rustic, and use only the solid wood for the main furniture. Add some wrought iron decorations and accessories, such as black iron racks or maybe medieval style iron chandelier over your island. Display the spices and jars to make Tuscan kitchen looks awesome and inviting.
