It’s not as hard as you think, no matter where you live. With some small changes and additional decorations to make a coastal style living room, you can enjoy your beachy holidays anytime.
To bring a coastal look and atmosphere into your living room, the first thing you must keep in mind is you can’t go with an orange-hued floor. So if you have a ceramic, parquet floor or wooden ones with a hint of orange, you need to get rid of it. That will clash with the natural look of coastal living room you want to achieve.
As a replacement, engineered hardwood floors are popular choices. They’re amazingly durable and come in an array of beautiful colors. You can opt for a gorgeous, driftwood-gray floor to add some warmth to your coastal style living room for years, and it goes with a variety of design styles. If you want to add an area rug, those sand colored ones will be a perfect choice. If you want to go patterned, pick the ones with strips.
To make a stronger coastal ambiance, you can paint your living room with aqua or light blue, and combine it with white. You can also add some wall decorations, such as wall decals or murals on one side of the walls.
You can use end tables for surface and storage, and they will help tell the design story in a room. Place a lightly designed end tables near walkway areas and try to consider a more sturdy tables to fill larger areas.
For the sofa, you can add a sectional sofa or the ordinary one, in the shades of blue and neutrals. Navy and light blue will be perfect. If you want other colors rather than blue, you can choose white or sandy beige instead. To add island atmosphere, add a wicker armchair or two, with stripe pattern or tropical ones. Consider a driftwood coffee table and some patterned pillows to complete the look.
For the curtains, you can use some white, sheer ones to create an airy feeling. But you can also use some yellow-toned ones or neutral ones such as beige and light brown. To make your coastal living room looks even more fabulous, try to add a driftwood shelf in a boat shape or another shape you desire. Add some books and appropriate knick-knacks, such as a decorative conch or clamshell. You can actually make do-it-yourself photo frames adorned with small clamshells. They will be a cute decoration for the wall and perfect remembrance that will make you think of the beach.
